Flange Nut Overview
A flange nut, also known as a flange face flange, is a nut that has a wide flange on one end that acts as an integrated washer. Made of hardened steel and coated with zinc, flange nuts are used in a variety of applications, depending on the style purchased, and are hexagonal in shape. To avoid damaging the parts, this nut distributes the pressure of the nut across the part being secured.
In simple terms, a "flange nut" is a fastener with a wide, round flange. Their "washer-like" base helps to evenly distribute the load pressure of the nut over a larger surface area. Flange lock nuts are hexagonal in shape and are used on assembly lines where workers must speed up their workflow. Flange nuts provide a locking action that may be serrated. To keep the nut from turning in the correct direction, serrated flange nuts are angled in the proper manner to loosen the nut. The serrations help prevent vibrations of the nut from moving the fastener, thereby maintaining the holdin…
