In cases of shock resulting from hypovolemia, this agent serves as a temporary supportive measure during emergency resuscitation to raise blood pressure and maintain cerebral and coronary perfusion until adequate fluid resuscitation takes effect. Additionally, it may be used to support blood pressure following successful resuscitation from cardiac arrest.
